Newsletter October 2007
We have had a really good start of our training-programme in the SUSBIZ project. Very active, involved and debating participants contributed to making it a very good experience!
Focus in the first workshop, which was held in Delhi during the days 3-5 October, was on “human resource development, workers involvement and employer-employee dialogue” – all as a means to promote quality improvement, productivity, growth – and improvement of labour standards. During the workshop, we had introductions to CSR initiatives in DK/Europe and India, and group discussions of what makes work inspiring, what does it cost if you don’t prioritise human resource development and commitment, and how to operationalise CSR as a management system.
In groups, the participants prepared checklists for identification of potential risks and ideas for initiatives that could improve labour standards and the bottom line at the same time. The checklists, or idea catalogues were used for a company visit at one of the supplier’s old and new facilities, and later presented to the entire group.
Next workshop will be in January, in Delhi. Focus will be on Occupational Health and Safety. Meanwhile, the Indian companies start implementing their action plans, with support from our Indian coordinator and Indian consultants, and in close dialogue with their Danish partners.
