Newsletter July 2007

Since the project was initiated in February this year, a number of activities have taken place:
In March, Henning Høy Nygaard (DFSME) and Mette Andersen (Danish Commerce and Companies Agency’s Center for Corporate Responsibility) paid a first, introductory visit to the Indian companies participating in the project.
During the same mission, agreements were finalised with the TERI Foundation in Delhi and Four-D Consulting Ltd. In Bangalore. They are specialists in different areas within corporate social responsibility, and will work with the Danish team as Indian facilitators. They will participate in needs assessments, training and follow-up during the implementation phase

  • We have employed an Indian project coordinator, Mr. Pranjal Jyoti Goswami (Pranjal@susbizindia.org). Pranjal will be in charge of the day-to-day coordination of project activities as well as form part of the Indian team of facilitators
  • We now have an Indian project office, situated at the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi (11 Aurengzeb Road, New Delhi -110011. Tel: 91-11-42090795. Cell phone: +91-9910012133. Fax:91-11-42090799)

Factory tours and in depth-interviews with managers and owner of the Indian companies were carried out, with focus on core business standards, labour standards, health and safety standards and environmental issues
  • The Needs Assessment reports are now being reviewed by the Indian and Danish companies, and based on the final reports, Action Plans for the remaining part of the project will be developed in closed cooperation between the project team, the Indian companies and their Danish partners
  • 21 June we had a Workshop for the Danish companies at DFSME in Copenhagen. We presented the overall findings from the Needs Assessment, discussed the Danish companies’ involvement in the coming activities, and also had a presentation of the “CSR Compass” by Mr. Carsten Ingerslev, head of the CSR Centre of the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency, and a presentation of “Human Rights in India” by Ms. Marie Busck from the Danish Institute for Human Rights
  • Next coming activities will concentrate on development of action plans and training plans. First training for the Indian companies will be in Delhi during the days 2-4 October 2007. More on that in the next Newsletter! From mid-July till the beginning of August, the Danish part of the project team will be on vacation most of the time. Pranjal, however, will be available in Delhi
